About Dr Doraid Alrifai

Dr Doraid Alrifai is an experienced medical oncology physician who manages patients suffering from thoracic (lung, mesothelioma, thymoma) and urological (kidney, ureter, bladder, prostate, and penile) malignancies. He is based at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest teaching hospitals in the United Kingdom. Dr Alrifai trained throughout London in leading academic institutions such as University College London Hospitals (UCLH) and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. He has experience in both early and late phase clinical trials and is a principal and sub-investigator on numerous oncology studies. He holds an MSc from the Institute of Cancer Research and a PhD focusing on thoracic malignancies from University College London. Prior to these higher degrees, Dr Alrifai worked with Genomics England Ltd on the 100,000 Genomes Project. He has published in prestigious journals including the New England Journal of Medicine and contributed to oncology-based textbooks. Dr Alrifai has won national and international prizes for his work in medical oncology. He is heavily involved in teaching, chairs and speaks at educational and charity events, and leads the junior clinical faculty at St George’s, where he mentors new doctors and reviews for top-tier journals. Alongside his oncology work, Dr Alrifai played a crucial role in running the COVID Medicine Delivery Unit (CMDU) at St George’s Hospital, where his contributions were recognised by the BBC. His broad medical expertise allows him to manage responsibilities across both general medicine and oncology. Dr Alrifai’s first language is English, and he is also fluent in Arabic.
